SP organises 2012 IA National Day 6s, SBI Cup
Seasoned Pro was once again appointed as Event Manager for the 2012 IA National Day 6s, SBI Cup on August 9th. 11th and 12th. This edition was unique as Seasoned Pro conceptualised a new element to Singapore's longest-running 6's tournament. There would now be a Challenge Of Nations Category whereby teams would be represented by countries and players could play for their birthplace, celebrating Singapore's cosmopolitan make-up. 6 teams took part - India, Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Singapore. India emerged victorious after beating India in a pulsating final, much to the delight of their fans and the concept as a whole was well received with a great deal of fanfare.
There were the other usual categories - Corporate (10 teams) and Junior (8 teams). The re-emergence of the Junior category also showed IA’s and SBI’s commitment and development of youth cricket in Singapore. The winners, Global Indian School (QT), were well represented and along with the other teams ,showed that interest in the sport is truly blossoming at the grassroots level.
The Corporate category was again oversubscribed exemplifying that cricket in Singapore is a very popular sport and still has room to grow in this island nation. The character of this growth was displayed in first time winners, NUS, who have been battling in this competition for the past few years, finally tasting success in 2012.
