Seasoned Pro organized Singapore's first-ever high intensity cricket training camp for kids aged between 11-15. 2 esteemed coaches were invited to run the clinic. Former Australian international, Dav Whatmore, coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders, led SriLanka to their first-ever World Cup title in 1996 and his tactics were widely-credited with changing the face of one-day cricket.

He also coached Bangladesh to their maiden test series win and they beat Australia, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka in one-day matches.

As a player, Tom Moody was a double World Cup winner with Australia in 1999 and 2001. Upon retirement he became a coach and was successful at Worcerstershire before taking on the job with Sri Lanka where he brought them to the 2007 World Cup final. After that, he coached Western Australia and IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

Because of unseasonal torrential rain, the training camp was forced indoors at the United World College (UWC) sports halls. There, our resident coach, Arjun Menon conducted training stations for fielding, bowling and batting. All the while they were being filmed by Kolkata Knight Riders analyst Srikanth. He collated each participant's footage on a DVD using cutting-edge Silicon Coach computer software.

On day 2 every young cricketer spent 10 minutes with both Whatmore and Moody as they analyzed their personalized DVD with the coaches who rectified any mistakes in technique that they had observed. The one-on-one sessions proved invaluable to the participants who were thrilled to have 2 world-renowned coaches give them such insights. The kids also had the added bonus of getting individual photos with the duo along with autographs.

In between all this, the coaches dropped by the Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) to give a pep talk on leadership and teamwork to leading players and officials. During the evening they spoke at a dinner at the Singapore Cricket Club. They discussed their playing and coaching careers, current cricket events as well as some humorous anecdotes of team-mates and IPL owners. The crowd of 70 certainly enjoyed their company and the wonderful food and beverage provided.

Many thanks to all who were involved with this event, in particular our partners UWC, SCA, APSM and most importantly, our sponsors Nomura Bank and Kingfisher Airlines.
